You don't get an option to change your appearance, wearing a mask doesn't help, you can't buy, pick pocket or barter the radio out of the caravan master's hands to prevent him from calling for help. There's so many people in the wastelands who are more evil than you, level 2 guy who raided a caravan, and yet this group who has NO presence in the world, no name, nothing just magically appears to crap all over you. The wasteland is filled with bandits, crazed cultists and animal attacks and yet these super mercs haven't taken care of those dudes? It breaks suspension if disbelief and credibility that these guys who are more powerful than the endgame final fights exist just to pick on you. You raid a SINGLE caravan and magically you've got the most elite group of badasses ever on your case. So not only do you get punished by ending up with less caravans, but you also get an instant "reload your last save" squad that hounds you. Of course you have the option to cheat this event by depositing all of your gear and then talking the super mercs into letting you live, but is that really good game design? Does anything about this make sense?Īnd what's worse, for every caravan the player raids in the game right now, the chances of encountering a caravan decrease by 1%. You're incapable of traveling at night anymore because you've got these guys on your case? Really? And even having a car doesn't help because they can just "out run" you in their truck? The ambush is completely unavoidable and there's no skill checks for getting out of it in a game that's obsessed with skill checks? How dare you be evil? How dare you do anything but help people? They have double the amount of guards and two vendors.Īny of these would be better than a gang of guys with ENDGAME equipment suddenly stalking your character the moment you destroy a single caravan. It looks like a normal caravan and they appear to be carrying a lot of money, but then they're revealed to be bounty hunters looking to catch the caravan raider.ģ, A smaller, less well armed group of hunters comes after you've hit a certain number of caravans.Ĥ, The caravans are all larger now because they're traveling in packs. Here's an example:ġ, The caravans all have an extra guard and less goods to trade, because the traders have been attacked the caravan master has gotten some extra protection.Ģ, Caravans have a random chance of being "sting" operations. In a normal game, they'd have lesser groups of bounty hunters who would go after you, or special counter measures. I don't know of anyone that's ever managed to beat the Super Mercs legitimately. My biggest problem with the super mercs is that there's NO buildup or warning whatsoever. It shows what a true successor to the Fallout series could and maybe should have been. Overall, it is a nice and overall well made little indie game for lovers of the genre with lots of heart and full of Russian soul, but could still use some more polishing, balancing and content. And why can i not craft myself a carrying rig or small trolly wagon or larger backpack? Why are there no beasts of burden available for the wasteland scavenger? And melee in general is a lot less useful than guns. There is a severe lack of actually useful melee weapons. crafting is not as useful as it could be, especially in the weapons department. If you ever happen to attack/rob a caravan, you can just as well reload a previous save, as you will soon meet a heavily armed mercenary squad which will make short work of you without using cheats. There is no way to determine the stats or talents of your companions, so you don't know which gear is most effective for them. Also, NEVER give them shotguns or thrown explosives/area effect weapons, as they will hit you wit them if you are too close to the enemies. Imagine Fallout 3/4 companions being on-essential. Your companions are mostly good as mules, but nearly useless in more difficult fights as they die rather easily and cannot be revived once down. Guns always win out over everything else. Some char builds like full unarmed build are pretty much pointless, since you just cannot do enough damage for it to be valid. So running/escaping is often the most valid choice. Combat is exceedingly difficult, especially if you are getting ambushed and surrounded. Dialogues are mostly fun and full of charme. It has atmosphere, lots of humor and tributary references to the genre.
